Avengers 2012 art

What?! You thought I wouldn't do this type of thing? Cash in (I'm not cashing-in a dime btw) on a popular trend? Not at all. Here are my sketches of The Avengers, a few of which I've never drawn, that I eventually hope to ink and composite together to make an awesome poster!
The original sketch that started it all.

More of a defined group drawing, so I  know what everyone's doing.

I did a few Hulks and I wasn't happy with the lack of spontaneity or lack of rage the others had so i looked back on the original sketch and liked his 'tantrum' pose. So I went with that. One of my challenges drawing Hulk as well as all the other Avengers, is not copying someone else's style but creating my own.

A few Nick Fury's. I didn't like the clunky boots. The sketch above this one is the final.

Thor. Thor's a God so he can't look mortal in his reaction/expression. Arrogance is ok, he just needs an even temperament about him as he doles out justice. The top sketch is the final result.

Black Widow. If I haven't expressed this before, I'll do it here. Whenever I need to draw hot women, they must be drawn nude first and clothes added later. It's much easier for me to capture the beauty of the female form without the clutter of fabric. After I've captured the sexy sensuality, I add clothes without affecting the sexy lines. Skin tight is best done when the clothes is skin with accessories added.

Captain America. A certain level of respect also must be given to Cap. He represents old school American Patriotism, he has no swagger, he's a whitebread as they come. But he is a good natured, justice delivering hero.

Hawkeye. Don't know much about him but this felt right for my version. That's it.

Iron Man. Tony Stark. I love the design of the Mark suit. The face is so badass! Not easy to make this my version.

Artwork with purpose

For ToonCow.com. Subject: Failed Easter.

Today, Friday the 13th, my Creative Director is leaving the company. He's a good man and he deserves this.

I can't resist a good run at Bruce Timm. I admire his style and hope it finds it's way into my DNA.
Here's my try.

Easter 2012 Tooned Up.

For Easter 2012 I created this image. I've always thought everything has a hierarchy, even among icons such as these. Just like Coke is the most popular soda worldwide and McDonald's is more famous than BK, so to are cartoon characters.

Continuing digital painting practice.

As the title states, I'm constantly trying to improve my digital painting technique as well as having a self critical eye towards my work.

I'm happy with this for now and will be ok with it for years to come but knowing what I wish to achieve, visually speaking, and keeping within my many styles of art, I'm still not there.

It's getting there. Less is more in this case.

Be patient and let practice, critique and time dictate where I'm headed.

Things I need to work on:
  1. Cinematographic layout. Making sure all my angles don't always pull the picture too much in the same direction.
  2. Story. I think when you look at this you know what's going on or what happened most recently. As soon as I was done with it I realized what would've been a better composition for the guys in the foreground.
  3. Color. Originally I thought of throwing in a red flag of some sort or yellowish flames in the rear of the downed aircraft.
  4. Vehicles. I definitely need work there. I'm an occasional sci-fi fan but have trouble connecting with my creative side when it comes to science fiction vehicles (without recreating something that already exists in Star Wars or some other flick I've seen).
